Event description

Award-winning children's author and Horrible Histories West End Actor Emma Swan grew up on cruise ships! Her parents worked onboard and like her protagonist, Silver, she was ‘ship-schooled,’ while travelling the globe. In this special event, Emma will reveal what life was like at sea and how it felt to be a mini crew member, in her cabin, at the bottom of the ship. The interactive elements in ‘Cruise Ship Kid’ will be packed into this event with magazine-style quizzes, games, songs and maybe a couple of interruptions from Silver herself! It’s ‘shore’ to be a good time!

Emma recently won Newcomer of the Year and the Readers' Choice Award at the Books Are My Bag, National Book Tokens, Readers Awards. 'Cruise Ship Kid' was selected as Waterstones Children's Book of the Month in July, was a WHSmith Travel Book Club pick and is currently a Waterstones Paperback of the Year. As an actor, Emma works frequently with Horrible Histories. Her other acting credits include the RSC and Doctor Who. Emma would be delighted to visit your school!

Goddard Park, Swindon

“The children had a great afternoon and I've already seen lots of the children who purchased the book reading it around school already and have come and told me how much they are enjoying it! Please thank Emma too as without her enthusiasm the children wouldn't have been so engaged!”

“Emma was WONDERFUL. We’ve never sold so many books at an author event before.”

“Emma was absolutely amazing, and the children loved it. She has so much energy and enthusiasm and we were so lucky to have her visit our school. I really loved her message as well about not changing yourself, a very valuable lesson.”
